Celebrating 20 Years of Magic

For the past 20 years J.K. Rowling has captivated readers of all ages with stories of magic, heroism, friendship, and bravery. First published in 1998, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, introduced readers to the story of a young wizard discovering his magical heritage, making a few enemies, and saving the wizarding world.
This year, in honor of the 20th Anniversary of the initial publication, Scholastic has announced that bestselling and Caldecott Medal-winning artist Brian Selznick will illustrate brand-new paperback editions of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling Harry Potter series. The newly illustrated series of seven books will be available in July 2018 and a collectible box set available in September.
“Brian Selznick, with his unique and cinematic approach, is a visionary and the perfect artist to illustrate these new Harry Potter editions, for readers of all ages,” said Ellie Berger, President, Scholastic Trade. “As the longtime U.S. publisher of Harry Potter, we’ve seen firsthand the impact of the series over the past twenty years—from the early support and enthusiasm among booksellers and librarians, to kids discovering the books for the first time, and to families and friends lining up for midnight parties. On this milestone anniversary, we are excited to join the legions of fans as we celebrate this cultural phenomenon, and look forward to introducing Harry Potter to a new generation of readers.”
Join Scholastic in celebrating 20 years of magic with a series of events in 2018:
  • April: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child comes to Broadway
  • October: the British Library’s exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic opens at the New York Historical Society
  • November: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the 2nd Fantastic Beasts movie, opens in theaters
